Glitter gel, the next dayPosted by Alissa on July 14, 2001 at 17:24:03: In reply to: A long light hearted rant on glitter gel and henna posted by Alissa on July 13, 2001 at 20:29:03: For anyone who is curious how the experiment came out, here's part ofan email I wrote about the results : Believe it or not, it came out really well! The design sealed so nicely I left it on from 1 p.m, walked around barefoot all day at home and had NO flaking. By bedtime it was still sealed just as well, so I left it on without a wrap all night, with the resolution of shaking out the sheets if they were full of henna crumblies in the morning. Well, by this morning there were just a few spots that had flaked (like 3% of the entire design) but overall it was still holding strong. And, once awake, I wondered how easily it would remove and went out to the yard to scrape it off. It came right off, with no more scraping that I normally do with a L/S coating, and the color is quite brilliant. It is on the top of my foot and a few toes, so the skin is of course very good to take the stain, and the color ranges from dark pumpkin (top of foot) to rust orange (on the toes). So it didn't seem to interfere with the henna's ability to stain one bit! I'm so jazzed, I mixed up 3/4 of a .5 oz j-bottle of it to try on willing friends. If experiments keep us this well, i will probably start using it on clients, with their permission (allergies, etc). The henna used was LifeArt's powder, Oil, lemon juice, and a few drops of Tea tree oil. The gel mix I used was like 1/10 of Elmer's to the amount of glitter gel, just enough to give the gel a bit more sticking power but not as thick or goopy and regular Elmer's would be. The brand of glitter gel is "Natural Choice Glitter + Gel for hair and body" -- it kind of looks like a Walmart store brand, which would make some sense as to why it ended up in a dollar store, if the Walmart warehouses were full and they sold it off at cost, or that sort of thing. I highly recommend playing with the concept if it appeals to you -- it is working for me like a dream!
