Henna time...tick-tock

How long do u guys normally leave ur henna on? if i leave it on for
only 2 (thats about as long as i can stand) how dark shud the stain
be? another thing...if i do not refridgerate my henna paste, how long
before it goes rancid? or is it better not to refridgerate?
