What is the texture of the brown stuff? If it looks like something
congealed, with lighter color stringy stuff, and is sweet-smelling
and slightly sticky to the touch, it's probably tamarind.

As for the henna lasting for a long time, a henna design is like a
Siamese cat- if you love it too much, it will run away, but if you
need to be alone, it will do everything in its power to be in front
of your face at all times. On the night before my first wedding
party, I did some lovely delicate finger bands on myself that somehow
smeared all over the place. I wouldn't let someone who can't do
something that simple do MY daughter, so I hurriedly redid the whole
finger, solid except for some simple "white space" designs. It
looked good for that day, but for about a week now, my fingers have
been a strange reddish color, except the knuckes, which are mottled
black. I've scrubbed until it hurts, to no avail. Yuck.

: I got some henna a bit ago a the person I got it from sent me two
: dark brown squares of something that is suppose to make the henna
: stain darker and deeper. She did not know what it was but said
that
: it didn't really seem to make much difference in the results she
had
: obtained when she used it. I am curious if anyone knows what it
: might be. Again it is dark brown, about 2 inch square and really
: hard. It doesn't crumble easily and came in a small plastic bag
with
: 2 squares in it. Any ideas about what this is. I haven't a clue
and
: don't know if there is some trick to using it.
:
: A different matter, I have some Sudenese henna. It doesn't have a
: super, super strong smell and needed to be sifted a lot to be
: usable. I made a henna mixture and added cajeput. I had been
: experimenting with a number of different kinds of henna from
: different sources and some of it supposedly "stale". The cajeput
: seems to have hastened the demise of the other henna as appears to
be
: the downside or upside of adding the cajeput depending on ones
: perspective. But, it has not seemed to hasten the demise of the
: Sudenese henna. I used all sorts of cleansers and did all sorts of
: things that usually destroy my henna stains and are usually to be
: avoided. But since I was experimenting I wanted the stains gone
: quickly. The stains of all the other henna is gone. But not the
: Sudanese henna. Has anyone had this kind of "long lasting no
matter
: what you do" results with Sudanese henna? I don't know anything
else
: about the henna except where it came from. I don't know exactly
: where it was purchased from originally because I got my large
supply
: from part of a large supply of someone else who had purchased it
from
: someone else. (I am going to ask her though about the original
: source.) Oh yeah, I do know that you don't have to worry about
usual
: household activity or even extrordinary household activity
effecting
: it. Much to my dismay right now. All of this to ask if anyone
has
: used this kind of henna before. I am really not complaining...a
: really deep staining and long lasting henna complaint...don't think
: so. The resistancy of the stain just amazes me.
