Honestly, I had in mind to crack the secrets of those pastes you
described. I may have neither a degree in organic chemistry nor a
Pakistani granny in the closet, but patience, persistance, and
the help of many won out! There are many ways to reach these peaks of
stain .. and that pleases me greatly! I hope every henna artist
develops her own group of glorious mixes (and I hope they take the cue
that information shared is information blessed, multiplied and
preserved! The wealth that comes from sharing beats a quick buck every
time!)

I didn't have enough time to do careful logs of temperature .... it
was indecently hot at Starwood, in the 90's every day, so the paste
was at least 80F in the shade. The next 6 months testing will tell
more. I was truely astonished to see paste left lying in the grass 24
hours on a summer day after mixing leave a brilliant orange stain on a
woman's inner forarm (just under elbow bend) in 1 hour, and darken to
deep chestnut tne next day. I don't think I've EVER seen deep
chestnut inside the forarm before! Certainly not unwrapped, unsealed
... just applied and allowed to fall off at will!

The drying and falling off thing seems to HELP the henna stain! It
seems as though easy access to the air is very important, almost as if
it's sucking oxygen out of the air to darken the henna. Sealed henna
doesn't begin darkening until its pulled off. Then it goes up to
speed. That's something I have to have a long think about with a
friendly biochemist......
