SecrecyPosted by Rupal on July 24, 2001 at 18:22:02: In reply to: Vendor's formula ... posted by Jewel on July 24, 2001 at 17:26:25: Well, never eat oxalic acid. that's all I can say. It's superacidic and I don't think I'd ever put it in my mehndi, for fear of accidentally getting some anywhere near my mouth. Catherine's post indicates that the warning labels might exaggerate oxalic acid's harmfulness, but just the very idea of a *skin burn* sends shivers up my spine! The titanium powder sounds cool, though. I might look for it sometime. About people being secretive with their recipes - what can I say? It's definitely an Indian way; it's probably that inner fear that you knowing their methods means that you'll take over their business. When I first learned henna the artist teaching me gave me completely wrong directions in cone-making. No wonder I hated it in the beginning - I was making the cones wrong! These days I thankfully prefer mehndi-ing with my own cones! Another example: My cousin once tried to learn cooking so that he could come to America and open an Indian restaurant, but all of the food he made tasted ridiculously bad because the chef didn't tell him any of the necessary spices! ~Rupal
