Really long answers to short questions!
(Hoping dry humour doesn't also give you flare-ups...)

Is there such thing as sympathy-induced Gryphoemia? Because I was
getting irritated just reading about your ordeals. A dear old friend
had an expression for the gauzy, doe-eyed darlings you describe: "So
heavenly-minded that they're NO EARTHLY GOOD." I'm afraid it's a
pretty universal thing, that wherever people get together to be
spiritual, you'll have folks who'll try to out-spiritual one another.
Pretty dang amusing unless -- heaven forbid -- you're trying to get
something accomplished... in that case I totally understand a bad case
of the "gryphs" coming on.

I also understand about people coming into a planned (group) activity
and wanting individual attention. I drew a little ten-second diagram
of the solar system on my dry-erase board in my office. One little
arrow points to Earth and says "You are here..." Another one points to
the sun -- the center of the universe -- and says "...NOT here."

I find the quickest cure for Gryphoemia is an objective look at the
current situation in the grand scheme of things, followed by a good
long belly laugh.
Followed by chocolate.

Sophie

PS - What's "draining corks?"
