This kind of thing happens all the time in graphic design work, too.
We occasionally have a client who comes in who is quite specific
about what they want. We designers may think it looks awful, and
that it is very poor design but they want what they asked for.

On other occasions we have offered several options for design of a
project to clients who invariably pick the one we all think is the
absolute worst.

When a client insists on something that is very poorly designed all
we can do is try point them in more aesthically pleasing directions.
If they choose not to listen to our advice all we can do is hope not
everyone thinks we designed it.
