A test for KenziPosted by Natasha Papousek on July 29, 2001 at 19:25:58: I just thought I would test to see if the overnight wait for thehenna-lemon juice mix was necessary. So I made up 2 batches of Kenzi's henna (which is obviously a new crop since it's so stringy!). The same recipe for both: 1 tbl henna, 2tsp lemon juice, 1/2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp tea tree oil, 1/2 tsp marjoram, 1/2 tsp rosemary. Batch #1 was all mixed together, strained and put into a cone. Batch #2 was done in stages: lemon juice and henna first, then a 12-hour rest, then adding the rest of the ingredients, straining and putting in a cone. I waited for 2 days before I tested the batches, since my terped up henna batches usually take about 48 hours to mature. Then I did my finger test. I did a dab of one batch on one finger, and a dab of the other on the other finger. Both mixtures were very oily -- and in the future, I'm going to add less EO. Then I waited about 10 minutes for the paste to dry, rinsed it off...and...Batch #1 stained gloriously with a bright orange that has now darkened to a light freckle brown. Batch #2 didn't stain at all! Now, in my experience with Jamila and CA henna, the overnight wait is essential. But it seems with this crop of henna from Kenzi, the overnight wait is useless. I think it's just very active henna (which it usually has been -- I've never needed the overnight wait for Kenzi's henna, just a few hours is usually enough rest time) So, there you go. Different techniques for different hennas. Just to add confusion...
