I've found that wrapping my hand tends to make my henna smear a lot,
so lately I've avoided it. by adding a little sugar and tamarind,
the henna sticks to my skin like glue, and the summer weather really
helps the stain! I used to put my hand in plastic bags, but I'd wake
up in the morning with really sticky henna smeared everywhere. My
number one recommendation is, that if you want to add any kind of
wrap or sealant to the mehndi, make sure that it is _completely_ dry
before applying it.

If I ever need darker stains, I usually put in on a day-or-two old
henna design. With a little practice, you won't get weird double
lines when you layer your stains, but it definitely helps darken a
design. Someone on this site has also recently mentioned the
strategy of filling in henna patterns with very watery henna.
