Okra is a vegetable well known and eaten often in the south eastern
portion of the US (yuck!) - I believe it is boiled and the juice
added to the paste because of it's sticky properties (try sugar or
honey instead in place of okra) and it may help give the henna a more
stringy texture.
As far as I know it does not add any benefit to the color of the
henna design.
