I think thatonce you start charging for your work you open yourself up to those people who don't really care what henna is, or where it comes from, or where you learned it etc. Sometimes I come home from a gig where everyone is like that and I feel very depressed. I have to remind myself that jobs like that pay for the more artistic ones, the people who ask me to do whatever I want and I go to town but don't charge them much. I try to engage clients in talking about henna, and try to judge how far they want to go into the subject. If they don't seem very interested in the history I just give them the light stuff, and somtimes throw in a little spicy tidbit to pique their interest. Others who are really into it get the full story and we have a great time talking about it. I figure that everyone is ready to learn at a certain level and even if I give them a ton of information they won't be able to process it. Your enthusiam will get through to them if you truly love what you do. Hang in there and make sure to have a mix of henna fanatics in your clientele just to keep yourself inspired.
