Any design will do, at least according to Moroccan custom, where
visitors are hennaed before they return home to show that they were
well taken care of during their visit. The henna is also a kind of
protective element to ward off any evil during the voyage. Usually
the hands and feet are done if the woman is married; if she is single
she will usually just have her hands partially hennaed.

I don't think there is any kind of custom for hennaing DURING the
voyage tho. So I guess that means it's time for you to make up a new
tradition!
