EO test of a different naturePosted by Monica Tittle on August 5, 2001 at 12:09:08: It seems like everyone here has been testing every EO they can gettheir hands on and getting some pretty good results. I decided to do some testing on my own but I wanted to find out something different. I wanted to know what effects, if any, EO's (specificly tea tree) had on old paste. I took a cone of paste that was a week and a half old and added the tea tree and lavender oils to it to see if it might get perked back up. This paste (Jamila and lemon juice only) had worked very well on my palm when fresh. A week later it didn't do so well on the back of my hand. A wrist band was bearly more than an orange shadow. The color gradually got better as the design moved toward my fingers with the best being on my knuckles. The darkest any part of the design got was milk chocolate and it started to noticibly fade just two days after removal. I used my normal technique of taping, wrapping in an ace bandage and covering with a sock. The cone contained a little less than one ounce of paste. I added about a half of a reglar teaspoon 3/4 tsp (measuring teaspoon here) of tea tree oil and 1/4 tsp of lavender and let it sit for an hour. I did a design on the inside of each of my ankles let it dry and taped it so the paste woudln't flake off while I was sewing. After two hours I removed the tape and the paste. The color was about what you would expect from paste that was just past it's prime. But (and this is a *big* but) two days later the designs had darkened to a dark chocolate in the areas toward my heals and soles and just slightly lighter toward the top of my foot. It has been a week now and the designs are just now starting to fade a little bit. The consistancy of the doctored paste was *much* better than just the henna and lemon juice alone even if it was a bit thinner than I normally work with but this would be easily remedied with the addition of a little more henna or possibly a little more sugar. Over all I'm quite pleased with this result especially since it means there is a way to lengthen the longevity of your cones.
