Re: I'm sorry but, BOYCOTT WAL-MART! Why in the name of Socks?Posted by Sarah on August 6, 2001 at 07:07:20: In reply to: I'm sorry but, BOYCOTT WAL-MART! posted by Darlahood on August 6, 2001 at 06:07:29: Ok.... yes I do work at WalMart, I'm the one, and don't get me wrong,I'm not defending the almighty "mother company" *note the dripping sarcasm* frankly I'm in college to get a better job, only working there to pay the loans off. I live in a small town, believe me, but frankly our Walmart is one of the best things that's happened to our town. All of our small shops died when the shopping malls opened anyhow, there haven't been small shops in my town since my parents were little, now there are still some, that thrive with a loyal clientel... but frankly, walmart has brought sooooo many jobs to our town that I can't even tell you. Now, we've only had the walmart for 9 years in our town, and the shoppes were gone long before walmart came along. So you can't blame ONE company for the downfall of small shoppes. I'm sure there were a number of reasons. To be honest, our one shopping mall just remodeled and such and became a big to do shopping mall... with a kaufmanns and a gap and an old navy and a sears, and an ames all under one roof, now if that isn't homogonizing the nation I don't know what is. Why dont' you boycott them too? Seriously, you can't blame one company on changes in economy. Times change and with them so do trends, look around. The nation's economy does NOT revolve around small buisness anymore, it's all dotcoms and big brand names that people pay through the nose to wear around on their shirts. If you're going to blame walmart for the downfall of local buisnesses you may as well boycott the internet too, cause with a computer, you don't even have to actually GO to the store, you order it, punch in your credit card number, and zippo, it comes right to your door, this society is quick on the way to having a collective sense of agoraphobia!! Look around, one company isn't to blame for the fall of good hometown stores, trends are, big companies in general are, shopping malls are, outlet stores are... you can't logically blame one chain for the ills the entire nation suffers. Don't get me wrong, I have little love for Wal Mart myself having to be there and deal with it so much, but honestly, look at the bigger picture, you see no one person or company can be blamed for it. In truth Wal Mart started out as one of those locally run little general stores... it just got lucky and grew is all. Sarah
