in over 60 countries and 9000 years there is more than one true meaning of hennaPosted by Catherine Cartwright Jones on August 9, 2001 at 04:16:45: In reply to: Whats the true meaning of Henna? posted by Sehar Jamil on August 9, 2001 at 03:25:34: There may be 4 separate origins of henna ... from India, Africa, thePersian Gulf area and the eastern Mediterranean .... all may date from 8000 BCE to 2000 BCE. The wedding traditions that we are familiar with originated in fertility cults in the eastern Mediterranian and were established by 7000 BCE. The other origins have other aspects. See link below: especially the history of henna. Through the rest of my sentient lifetime (another 25 - 30 years if I'm lucky) I expect to focus on the history and traditions of henna. I've spent the last 11 years researching this, and I've just scratched the surface with 600 or so books and several museums..... If my plans go through ... I'll have a phd in the history and traditions of henna ... and spend my time publishing and establishing this as a proper academic discourse. so .... stick around for the ride. It'll be interesting. You can always post or ask specific questions of me ... broad questions like "the meaning of henna" tend to get stuck like a hairball though ... as it's presently a semester's university lecture. If you want a quick fix, consider purchasing the video at http://reverndbunny.sphosting.com/books.html great info ... but the video quality would make Ed Wood blush.
