Hi Catherine,

Yes, that is the information I was seeking. If I am understanding
you correctly, hennaing anyone with sickle cell is not recommended.
If so, that is probably one of those questions that should be asked
of people being hennaed. I know what you mean about your daughter's
leg marks from nicks. Some African Americans once scarred are
scarred forever. I fall into that group.

One thing I might add though is that for African Americans the
redness may be red or could appear as brown or bluish skin
discoloration or there might not be discoloration that is easily
visible. I wouldn't want someone thinking they got a little poison
ivy around their tattoo simply because they don't see the redness.
Just want to not give anyone an excuse to go into denial when they
are in trouble with the black henna. Also, I would be concerned that
doctors unfamiliar with black henna and PPD might minimize or treat
incorrectly because of the absense of redness. I wish there were
some pics available. I would like to keep it on hand or be able to
refer someone here to see what it looks like on brown skin.

This really made me think again about events where children are
hennaed...even with parental consent if the question about sickle
cell enemia is not answered along with ones about allergies and skin
sensitivity, enemia and low blood pressure. Thanks again for the info.

Maureen
