Pure Lawsone (another name for the dyestuff in henna, hennotannic
acid) is very toxic if ingested. Henna, by itself, is NO GOOD to
ingest, but not particularly hazardous. Cows should not be permitted
to eat it, it hingers their digestion.

In any case, toxicity is something to take seriously, but evaluate
carefully in terms of application. Sometimes there's no reason for
concern ... sometimes there is.
