Tartaric Acid???

What is tartaric acid? I vaguely recall it being discussed quite a
ways back, and now I see it as an ingredient of one of those tubes I
started out with, (but for some reason kept the empty tube.) This
was a tube that gave me particularly lovely results, and I'm
wondering if maybe that's a potential ingredient for my experimenting.

It tartaric acid the same as cream of tartar?

Is it natural?

Is it safe?
