Aaack! I need help -- wacky peeling

This is a picture of a design I did last night, just sort of a stream-
of-consciousness, can't-sleep kind of thing.

I used trustworthy henna powder, tea tree, lime juice, and a wee bit
of vegetable-based glycerin, then L/S. The mix was about 36 hours
old. I left it on for about 90-120 minutes, and then took it off.
It looked totally normal for me, and for this mix, last night when I
went to bed.

However, direct your eyes to the part of the pic in the box. There
is some crazy peeling going on there, with some of it darker than
anywhere else on the hand, and some looking like no henna at all was
applied. There are two things about this part of the hand that set
it apart from the rest of the hand: I started my design here, and
this is the part of my hand that usually takes the longest to fade.

Any input? Ideas? I'm completely bewildered.

Thanks
