be *very careful* with heat!
Some drum heads can warp and become un-playyable with too much heat
exposure.
~Nick, whos bass tabla is experiencing the heat and humidity syndrome
right now and refuses to sound right.

: Yes, I've had quite a bit of experience with drumheads. FIRST do
not
: mix any oil in your henna mix. Use lemon juice and a little sugar
: which will help it stick to the head better. Apply the henna, let
it
: sit for 7-10 days. You might scrape off a tiny bit & see how it's
: coming along, but really, the drums get darker with age and with
the
: oils in your hand when you play them.
: It is also beneficial to expose the drum head sometime within in
the
: first week to a source of heat, out in the sun, near a fireplace or
: oven, for a few minutes.
: Finally, after the henna has been on the drum for a week or so you
: have a choice - leave the henna on and just play it until
eventually
: it falls off, or scrape it off. It's totally the drum-owner's
: preference. Some drummers have sensitive fingers and don't like
the
: 3-dimensional quality of the henna, others could care less. I
think
: its generally better to leave it in place. But you can crape it
: gently with a plastic card, like a library or credit card. DO NOT
: ever apply anything moist to it.
: That's all i can think of right now..
: good luck,
: kree
