Lauren, thanks for sharing your experiences. It is always good to
hear about how different people react to different things. There are
SO many factors!

I am finding that with moroccan henna (this is a huge generalization,
since we probably get our henna from different suppliers) the dye
release is quicker than with other hennas, EXCEPT when terped. What
I do to get good, dark results is to mix my paste up without the
terps, and then 24-48 hours later add the terps and start hennaing.
I get poor stains if I use the terped paste before 24 hours.

I am using henna from the summer crop in Morocco. Nick has been
using my Moroccan henna from the spring crop and says that his loses
all staining power after 24 hours!

Too many factors, I am overwhelmed. I don't know if any of the above
is helpful to you. If your timing is different from what I describe
above, try changing it.

My plan is to test different terped pastes thusly:

1. paste with terps added at mixing, 12 hours old
2. paste with terps added at mixing, 24 hours old
3. paste with terps added at mixing, 48 hours old
4. paste with terps added 12 hours later, 12 hours old
5. paste with terps added 24 hours later, 24 hours old
6. paste with terps added 48 hours later, 48 hours old

Someday I will have time for this.

One thing I did discover is that terped paste, left in the bottle at
room temperature was totally dead at 10 days! Not very useful but
curious.
