The power of symbolism (long but with a surprise ending!)Posted by Lauren on August 22, 2001 at 19:10:11: A few weeks ago, we went to a teenytiny ritual in a park, and onewoman saw I had henna and she glommed on to me right away. I had intended to do little designs for free at the event, but she nearly changed my mind. Within five minutes of meeting her, she gave me her entire relationship ihstory, complete with description of how and why her last boyfriend left her. I tried to be polite but ended up walking away. Throughout the day, she glommed on to several small groups, killing conversation each time with "oversharing". I felt physical aversion to her, and I didn't want to give her any of my henna, which I had made specially with intent for ritual use, or at least to carry "good juju". I hate to sound so crystal-twinkie, but the term Psychic Vampire springs to mind as being fairly accurate. Anyway, I finally bit the bullet and said I'd do a pattern for her. I chose one of CCJ's Norse Knots, and hennaed her with the intent to "wrap her into herself". Now, it may have been simply the effect of having someong paying attention only to her for a few minutes, but for the rest of the day, she was so much better, being polite in conversation, and much more "contained". Has anyone else had this experience? Later in the day, I hennaed one of CCJ's pomegranate designs on the outside of my calf. Pomegranates are for fertility... I'll be doing the Egyptian Hippo design from CCJ's book in a few months, and will post pics here.
