i love hearing stories... (with a p.s. to Jeremy...)Posted by Alissa on August 25, 2001 at 18:46:24: In reply to: Notes on last night's gig (long) posted by Nick on August 24, 2001 at 14:53:26: i'm so glad people post they're experiences like this. i dont alwayshave anything productive to add, but i do love hearing about other people's henna adventures. of course the Rev. Bunny's are hilarious to read about in her diaries, and in general i just get a kick out of sharing mutual experiences. i had a great mini-gig last night, a boyfriend wanted to suprise his sweetheart for her birthday and had me over to the house to henna her up with the royal treatment. she had no idea what he was up to, but he had to ask her a few questions regarding allergies (remember my eczema post? yeah that girl) and threw her a few red herrings during the course of the week like, "how long has it been since your last malaria shot? last tetanus?" i laughed so much when they told me this. She said she knew someone was coming to the house, and they were trying to arrange for their 13-yr-old to stay at his dad's, so she halfway wondered if he had gotten her an exotic dancer! LMAO at that! I told them i was a dancer, and i WAS there for entertainment, but theres no way in HELL i'm that kinda entertaining. after taking a good long look at the design books -- i love that, when they take the time, dont RUSH, and really just enjoy the whole process of being mehndi'ed -- she chose several (foot, toes, ankle, hand and fingers) Liisa-inspired works that came out just lovely. I make it a point to tell people, espeically for personal home appointments, that im there to create an atmosphere where they can feel free to kick back, relax for a while and enjoy having nothing to do but indulging herself in body decoration. she loved that, and even got her boyfriend to feed her grapes while she sat being henna- adorned. shoulda seen her grinning when i left a few hours later. p.s. i hope that once Jeremy is fully recovered and finds the time to put together an e-zine that there could be a regular column or section just for swapping tales like this.
