: Hi,
: just so you know, pre-mixed hennaes can be a far cry from the real
: home made stuff. So if you don't like the pre-mix, don't give up
: right away. Premixes are often coarse, thick, lumpy, awful smelling,
: and don't stain well. Home made paste is smooth and wonderfully
: scented, and stains beautifully if you use fresh ingredients! And
: there's the plus of knowing exactly what is in the home made paste,
: since pre-mixes often do not list all the ingredients.
: Good luck,

: : Hi again. Thanks for the help. I was at the mall today and got
some
: : premixed henna (Brite) because my mom suggested I try that to see
: if
: : I enjoy doing henna myself before bying the whole kit and
caboodle.
: : I'm going to try it in a few minutes. Thanks.

My first henna powder was hair henna (needs to be sifted!). I had
small paint bottles and tips. They weren't as nice as the jaquard
bottles and tips, but they worked. All of these were purchased in a
mall.
I used the powder, lemon/clove and sugar recipe and dabbed it with
lemon/sugar. This is nice to start with as it doesn't stain as
quickly, in case you make a mistake. I found the stain I got was nice
and lasted a long time.
After I used up my first small batch I knew I was hooked and ordered
the good stuff online.
Like Nick says, mixing your own paste is the best and the most
satisfying-it is all your work!
I've only been at this about a month and a half, so I'm still new,
also. This forum is probably the best source you will find for
answers, resources, new developments and good stories.
Hope we hear more from you in the future and maybe see some pictures
of your work!
good luck
jolynn
