People have used henna as a skin conditioner because it will prevent
dessication and it may be it is mildly antifungal and antibacterial.
If you're in a very arid place and have some epidermal injury henna
may help the body heal itself by keeping the skin moist and flexible,
and deter infection. Many plants are a bit antifungal and
antibacterial, so that's nothing unusual.

Though henna has been used for many other things, its mostly a
"chicken soup" category medication. That is to say ... very
comforting, very traditional, grandma always did it that way ... but
probably not verifiably effective as a medication.
