My personal taste and opinion is that the best designs are a mix of
thick lines and thin lines, postive space and negative space. The
two opposites work well together and accentuate the beauty of the
other.

Above is a pic of a good example. Of course it is from our dear
CCJ. What is so so lovely about the design, is not the individual
elements themselves (tho they are beautiful), but how they work
together. There are lacy bits but also blank spaces setting them
off. And there are dark, thick lines, again with lacy bits around,
or blank space. The blank spaces in such a design form their own
design.
