Hi Darla,

Glad to see someone else up tonight. But sorry too, since I know
what it feels like.

Sounds like you had a boat load of nerdy people to deal with. I
don't know why people think they can say anything to you when you are
out in the public providing a service. I had one girl this summer
who could not make up her mind about a design. Did not like anything
in the book. Had some notion of a design that had a dolphin, rainbow
and flying horse in it. When I told her to come back when she had
some notion what she wanted, she allowed me to choose a design for
her. Then she began to complain about the placement of every line.
She then wanted to know if I would reduce the price since I didn't
have a design that she really wanted and because I could not do the
design with the flying horse, clouds and dolphin. I was about five
minutes into the design when she said this. She was my last person
for the day. I tried so hard to get through it. But when she wanted
a reduction in price. I wiped off the henna paste and told her that
I would give her five dollars to go away from me now and not ever
come back. She had the nerve to be surprised and told me that I was
rude and didn't know how to deal with the public. I know I surprised
her because I surprised myself.

But I also had two strange experience related to henna this week. I
went to my doctor on Thursday who began to admire my henna designs on
my hand, leg and foot. She asked was it permanent and I told her
that it wasn't and began to explain henna to her. She had never
heard of henna or Mehendi. She brought a couple of other doctors in
to show them the henna. None of them had ever heard of henna or
Mehendi body art. I thought that was so strange. I told them about
black henna and the awful problems that could be cause by it. They
had never heard about that either. That scared me. They could not
help anyone who came in with a bad reaction. And I just found out
that there are two henna people putting black henna on people around
here. One is using a premix that is ordered online and another is a
powder with PPD in it. I told the doctors about black henna and
promised to get them the information they needed to treat some
patients that are sure to come in with these two nuts doing "henna
tattoos". I found out these two are working directly out of tattoo
parlors and their only interest is not to lose a customer who comes
in for something other than a permanent tattoo. I talked to the
people at one of the tattoo parlors and they said they had never
heard of "black henna" dangers. These are not bad people. I have
had a good relationship with them up til now. But it appeared that
they could not care less about it because they had never experienced
it. Seems that their cousin has joined the business with the henna
thing. Nothing will get their attention but a law suit.

The other most horrible experience occurred when my girlfriend
called me a few Fridays ago to tell me that her niece who was 23 had
died from a heart attack. Her niece, daughter and a few of their
sorority sisters had gone up to Canada to the Caribanna. They had
all gotten their sorority insignias hennaed on their behinds. I
thought that was interesting by itself. But the neice also got one
done on her on her upper chest and ankle. When I went to visit my
friend Friday, she showed me the videos that the girls had taken
while in Canada...showing off their henna designs, a private wake
ceremony the sorority sisters had held for her neice, and a photo of
the neice in the casket...I know this is weird. What shook me the
most was, there were these videos and photo of this young girl with
black henna tattoos on her. I know the black henna had nothing to do
with her death. She was 23 years old and weighed about 280 pounds
with all of the consequent health problems. But she died the day
after they returned from Canada a day after getting the tattoos. I
just so wished that she did not have that crap so visibly on her body
when she died. I have since told my friend about the nature of the
black henna her neice, daughter and friends all got on them. I trust
her to choose the right time to inform and warn them away from the
black stuff in the future. None of them appeared to have had a
reaction to it this time around.

Well, this fun topic is no way to start the day...and certainly is
not going to be what is on my mind as I go to sleep. Guess I'll go
watch a movie and pray for sleep. Night...or morning all!

Are you still up Darla!!!

Maureen
