O/T cell phone advice

Anybody have advice on cell phone plans/phone brands? i used to be
totally against them but at this point i think they'd be useful for
convenience/safety. Right now it mooks like AT&T and Spring PCS have
the best plan for my area (Boston, MA), but i am still pretty
confused - i'm basically looking for a $40/month plan. also - any
advice on phone brands? The Samsung flip-up phones look really cool
but i hear they break. The other advice i read was to get a nokia
5165 or 8260. i'd appreciate any help anyone can give me. thanks!

makes real typing impossible! i know i know. i'm laying off my
hands now. this one-handed typing thing is tough!
