There is NO natural black henna; period

Though the woman may have claimed that black henna can be obtained
naturally, I wouldn't believe her. Henna companies formulating black
henna essentially incorporate all the "black henna" chemicals
(including PPD) into the powder they create, so that it is nearly
indistinguishable from regular powder. Usually, black henna powder
is brownish or grey-ish, rather than bright green. Thus, the fact
that she only mixed her henna means nothing. It moreover indicates
that there are probably chemical additives in her henna; natural
henna usually requires an acidic environment in order to release its
dye (people often use lemon juice to initiate this dye release).

The "natural" color for henna is red. In general, beware when you
read the label "natural" on any product you buy. Coal is natural.
Hemlock is natural. Many, many things are natural, but naming them as
such does not indicate that they are safe.
