Finally got the Terp thing right! (don't laugh too loud if this was obvious...)Posted by Lauren on September 11, 2001 at 23:35:48: First, let me say I am so glad that our friends on the hennapage areokay. I haven't been able to get to a comupter, being out of work for three days with morning (oh, if only it was only in the morning!) sickness, and I was greatly concerned for Kenzi and the others in that area. I'm glad you're holding out okay. I discovered the esoteric secret to getting the terp thing to work is... covering it while it sits out. I had been leaving it on the counter uncovered so I could tell when it was ready by the look of the top of the paste. This time, I kept it out on the counter in a sealed container and although I'm not getting the ebony color that CCJ did, I'm at least getting a respectable brown on the back of my hand, which is all I wanted. Another factor I've noticed is that this paste is a REALLY slow burn- like the design on the back of my hand was nearly invisible at first, barely brown the next day, and only on the second day (almost 48 hours after application) did I get the full brown development. This is far longer than I'm used to. It got darker and redder in my palm, but it's already half faded there while the back of my hand is just past peak. I remember someone selling premix a while back at Pennsic in white tubes that the seller said didn't do so well on palms and soles but took great on normally harder to stain places. Since so many people want shoulders or ankles rather than palms or soles at festivals, that may be a trade-off I can work with, and just use plain stuff for the hard-core who know what I'm actually doing. Anyway, I thank you all for your suggestions and patience.
