Report from OaklandPosted by Sarah B on September 12, 2001 at 02:41:05: In reply to: So far all is well as could be expected here! posted by Maureen on September 11, 2001 at 17:28:05: It's mad here! There is no traffic on FIFTH AVE!!!!! not a bus inhours... since about 1:00 this afternoon.... its like a ghost town. Kepp hearing medevac helicopters bringing in wounded from DC and NYC... mostly seem to be escorted by perhaps fighter planes, haven't seen them but they sound like army planes and always are with helicopters. I cringe every time I hear something fly over head *cringes as another helicopter comes in* They're shipping wounded here cause they're backed up out there. I'm utterly numb, don't know how to react right now... terrified actually. I didn't want to see war in my lifetime, but it looks like its looming on the horizon. Mostly all the universities either evacuated or cancelled classes, we cancelled classes today and tomorrow. I'm worried about some of my NY friends, have accounted for most of them though. Now worried about my military friends... praying they don't get called up to go overseas. You can't believe how quiet it is here Maureen, don't know if I can sleep with no traffic noise. I mean God no busses! I'm really shaken... my shoulders... God if you hit me across them with a lead pipe it'd break in two! I'm so relieved to find Kenzi and you other NY folks ok! All day I worried about you all. I plan on donating blood tomorrow if the blood bank truck comes as it's supposed to... that's a big thing for me, I'm deathly afraid of needles, but I feel like I have to do it. You're all in my prayers and my thoughts in these troubled times... Do be careful and take care Blessings and all my love, Sarah B
