If you're planning to give blood . . .Posted by Rupal on September 13, 2001 at 04:43:56: You should probably wait to do it till next week; the influx ofdonors has filled the blood banks, and though you can store blood, it's pretty expensive to do so and it would be better to donate in a few days, when supplies are dwindling again. So . . . exercise well for the next couple of days and eat lots of food to prepare yourself for a donation. After donating blood, eat more food (high sugar foods), and get plenty of rest. Don't try to exert yourself. I ran a blood drive in my high school several years ago, and this is the stuff we tell people. I have pretty bad veins and i'm not too athletically able, so if I donate I should probably follow these procedures. You see, if the red cross can't extract 1 pint of blood, it probably won't be used, as far as I know. Under normal circumstances, donating less than 1 pint doesn't get you registered with the red cross database. Because of the national emergency their policies might change slightly, but please keep this in consideration, and keep yourself healthy before and after donating. ~Rupal
