The only henna I've found in connection with death are
1) hennaeing the deceased to make the body more presentable to the
examining angels (expecially if it is a young woman) (Persia, and
possibly Sephardic Jewish .. probably other but I don't have concrete
references)
2) hennaeing a woman prior to Suttee
3) hennaeing hands to celebrate the death of a hated enemy (Hadramaut
and probably other but I don't have concrete references)

The Bedu and other groups absolutely DO NOT henna during periods of
mourning; red clothing and all adornment and behaviour that would
imply celebration of the joy of life are set aside.

Because of #3 there, and the above paragraph, I'm disinclined to
henna, or to recommend henna during periods of reflection (such as
Ramadan) or grieving.
