Breathing will help!
Try very hard not to give in to panic and anxiety.
Sit in a peaceful place, and just concentrate on calming yourself. It
is possible to do this. It works very well in a pitch dark place,
where you can't see anything.
If your heart is racing, concentrate on physically slowing yourself
down. If you have a mala, say it over a few times very slowly. I like
to use my personalized version of the Refuge Prayer when i do this.
It helps me calm down.
If you can't do that, just concentrate.
Find something and focus your mind on it.
Anything will do, as long as you can focus well. I have been playing
my sitar a lot lately, and i find that it helps to try and play it to
my very best ability, because then i have to be very careful and
precise. But don't do anything like that if you don't enjoy it.
Sometimes being precise and careful at the wrong thing can just make
you feel worse. So find something you enjoy.
