I made one last week, and used one of my son's smallest white baby t-
shirts that he had outgrown. After decorating it I hung it on our
clothes line in the back, strung with flowers, where the rain of
recent days is already washing away the hennaed words ("Praying for a
wiser world for you to live in") and symbols, carrying them into the
soil and wind where I hope they are absorbed by the world who needs
them. For me, the "you" is not only my son, but all the children of
the world who will inherit the actions and consequences we are
creating.

I spoke with Kenzi about sending it on, but changed my mind as I
couldn't bear the thought of letting go of it. Instead, I will take
it out to a favorite spot in the woods behind my house (to "second
fallen log") and find a place to make its home. I am comforted by the
thought that I can visit it on my walks, and watch as nature consumes
the fabric until it too is gone.
