not henna related, but middle eastern related

Hej,

For my Developmental Elementary Reading class I have to do a project
that combines multiculturalsim or technology with elementary reading,
and rather than redo some variation on multicultural Cinderella
stories, I thought I'd like to explore middle eastern children's
books - by that I mean children's books with themes related to the
middle east. I fear that most children's exposure to that area of
the world, barring the terrible 24/7 coverage of the WTC, is along
the lines of Disny's Alladin or Sinbad the Sailor. Time and teacher
permitting, I'd like to analyse (sp?) any evolution in how middle
eastern culture is depicted in American books. (It is a grad
class . . .)

I'll start looking in earnest this weekend, but if anyone has any
suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks much,

Anne, who amazed the preK girls with her hennaed hand today
