Historically and today, there is a : higher percentage of people who enlist in the armed services from : the South, rather than the North. : : Some people will think I'm full of crap and take offense, but : that's all right, too. Your right on target. I'm a Southerner by birth (not choice) and if it's one thing that I know is absolutely true beyond a shadow of a doubt, it's that Southerners take "God and Country" *very* seriously. Way too seriously sometimes if you ask me, but you didn't so I'll just leave it there. ;) : Was there a particular experience that happened to you while you : were there that made you not like New Orleans? Or was it something : you couldn't put your finger on? I've gotten some of the same forboding feelings right here at home. I'm a questioning, independant Christian and anytime lots of people start talking about God incessantly and praying every five minutes, I get nervous. I've seen what "religion"* run amok can do and it's not pretty. And when you add that to the intense nationalism, it's downright scary sometimes. *I put religion in quotation marks because it's often a twisted view of religion that is the problem, not the actual teachings religion tries to express.
