attention is the world's scarcest resourcePosted by Catherine Cartwright Jones on September 29, 2001 at 18:51:31: In reply to: Thanks Denise....WAITING FOR ALL OF YOU THOUGH..PLEASE (n/t) posted by Noli on September 29, 2001 at 18:13:24: Honestly ... anything that makes me sit and wait for java or slowloading just plain doesn't happen. I have a better connection at my university office (and more time to waste), so I sit around and wait for such things there. At home ... phone line time is at a premium, and "java" or "be patient while loading" translates as "move on!". It's a beautiful page, but if it's a slow loader, I can't wait around for it. Somone in the house will be yelling for the phone line. This is all part of what I try to bang into my students' heads in one of the classes I teach. Attention is the scarcest resource in the universe. If you can't get people's attention and get your message across in a 3 seconds flat ... no matter what you have to say, it'll never be heard. Tripod, Geocities, Angelfire ... I don't even go there because the java ad load crashes my home connection half the time, and the pop up and pop back ads are too much of a nuisance. Can you make your site both beautiful and fast? Fast is first ... if you can do fast and elegant, fantastic!
