It soundslike you had a lot of fun! Have you tried adding more sugar to the paste when working in dry weather or outdoors? The sugar will hepl to draw moisture from the air. One time I had hennaed the bottom of my foot, or as much as I could see and reach, and discovered I forgot to bring the lemon and sugar to the couch. Instead of risking the paste I used the only liquid at hand, diet coke. It worked, the sugar in the paste allowed the cotton to stick and the acid in the pop seems to have done the work of the lemon juice. I've never tried it again, but maybe some day I should... Look forward to seeing the pictures! jolynn : so, after my humble henna beginnings on myself I took a couple of cones : of it and a bottle to nantucket this weekend and hennaed about 20 : victims...er..people! at a fire dancing/juggling/drumming weekend long : party. much fun was had by all and lots of things learned about how to : do a bunch of people. : : some noticings. when doing it outside it dried out really fast in the : wind so not best conditions to get good color, even when we did lemon : juice it right away (even while doing it). which didn't matter so much : since getting jugglers to sit still for an hour to let their hennaed : hands set wasn't happening anyway, and nobody minded if they didnt get : a hugely dark stain anyway. they all just liked sitting there getting : it done and a lot had it done after dinner but before the fire : spinning. : : humorous notes...did some on a guy who is an EMT from new : jersey...tissue paper wrapping just wasn't good enough for him, he came : up with a surgical bandage and surgical tape he carries with him : attached to his pants and wrapped himself, quite neatly, precisely, and : professionally. he actually wore his to bed so his came out really : well. : : we considered hennaing everyone's name on their forehead since none of : us had really met each other before, but sadly, we didn't end up doing : that. : : finishing the last few people on the ferry on the way back and : discovered I had left the lemon juice back on the island so we used hot : chocolate to dampen it down before wrapping everyone up. have yet to : hear how that actually came out... : : had a good time doing a girl who is from bangladesh and talking to her : about how her mother used to apply henna on her with a toothpick, which : she says took a long time to do...she says most people there use the : cones now. her stain didnt take the first time at all so we tried : again the nest day in the fog which turned out much better. : : pictures to come... : : Peregrine (katie) : : ps. anne from CT..i will henna you anytime...
