Have you tried adding more sugar to the paste when working in dry
weather or outdoors? The sugar will hepl to draw moisture from the
air. One time I had hennaed the bottom of my foot, or as much as I
could see and reach, and discovered I forgot to bring the lemon and
sugar to the couch. Instead of risking the paste I used the only
liquid at hand, diet coke. It worked, the sugar in the paste allowed
the cotton to stick and the acid in the pop seems to have done the
work of the lemon juice. I've never tried it again, but maybe some day
I should...
