A tale of two events - a mini-story

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

Last night I had a free mehndi demo at the local granola-happy-all-
organic-free range-everything store. And given the fact that it was a
free event, and I ran some calendar listings in the newspaper about
it as well as the store's newsletter, I expected a big turnout.
*WRONG*. I did 2 designs, both of them on employees of the store who
took their breaks to come and get henna. Besides that, I had 2 people
stop by and chat for all of 2 minutes, somewhat disinterestedly, and
take my business card. *Sigh* ah well, it was only an hour, after
all, and some time out of the house, even if it was spent doing a
henna snail (yes, a snail - she wanted a snail) on an employee's arm.

Today's library program went much better. I had about 15-17 people,
all hennaed in an hour and 15 minutes time. I lecture while I henna,
and today's group was about 3/4 adult - even though the program was
billed as a "young adult" event. Well, young at heart has to count,
doesn't it? They were a great group, very receptive to me and my
schpeel on henna, lots of questions and happy to be decorated.

I got lots of signatures on the FDA petition, and was able to educate
them all on the evils of PPD, while sharing basic info on henna lore.
One woman in particular was quite chatty regarding her work as a face
painter, and was quite interested in harquus (I told her I could
refer her to more informational sources beyond myself... so if she
follows through, you might expect an email Catherine).

So there are good ones and there are not as good ones, but it's all
good in the end I suppose.
