Henna that is right off the bush after the rainy season is Crayola
red. Harvested at any other time, or dried and packaged, most hennas
range from reddish-brown to cherry-black, with most being in the
orange-brown colors. There are exceptions- scroll down to some of
Jewel's posts to see pics of her bright red Meccan henna, or look on
CCJ's page for pics of Iranian. Your best bet when you must have
Crayola red is Maureen's Kimia. This is the same stuff as in the
picture on CCJ's site. It is NOT cheap, but I know about what she
paid for it, and given that, her prices are fair, and it will give
you the color you're dreaming of.
If you are willing to compromise a bit, both Maureen and I will soon
be offering Sharkiyya powder, which is redder than any I've tried
before. It's not the SPIFF bridal red of Kimia but it will be less
expensive and likely redder tha what you're using now. More on this
as it happens.
