Sirius Henna Conferences 2002 posted by Maureen on October 31, 2001 at 02:17:59: Traditions of Mothers and Daughters differs from History in that:"Traditions" focuses on the origins of the belief systems that are the cultural context of henna; the function of the behaviors of henna practises as a response to ecological stressors, biological stressors, social stressors and women's inherent challenges such as menarche, pregnancy, miscarriage, marriage ... like that. So: the social aspects of henna through a woman's life, across the different countries ... the "why" do henna. "History" focuses on the progression of henna from its origins through time, countries, into and out of religions .... some traditions here, but mostly the political, economic, religious and historical forces that moved henna from one area to another, how these contributed to development, flourishing or neglect of the art. Those are "biggie" classes that take me several hours to get through properly, and I can't do more than one a day. "little" classes ... demonstrations of mixing and technique, I can knock out in an hour ... but perhaps someone else can handle them ... or perhaps that could be a group seminar. I just plain can't lecture more than about 4 hours in a day or I'm too pooped to party!
