: Impressive work. have a few questions, do you use carrot bags
or j'
: bottles, and is it possible for you ( or anyone else) to state when
: photos are of male hands, it's not always possible just by the
photo
: to tell, and I am interested in what designs males seem to
choose. It
: would seem not all men go for the expected macho symbols
and tribal
: stuff.

Ida doesn't hang around here but I can answer for her. She
uses j-bottles exclusively. As for the sex of the person whose
hand is shown, the only photo of a man's hand is the one that is
5 rows down on the right. We don't get a lot of male clients,
maybe 20% of our clientele. It's hard to generalize about the kind
of designs they like. Sometimes where the person is from
makes a difference, sometimes their sexual preference will
make a difference...but never really ina predictable way. I have
gay indian men get burly tribal stuff, and one macho hispanic guy
got Moroccan bridal henna! New York is a very odd place where
stereotypes get twisted and turned inside out, to the point where
we have our own stereotypes!

: P.S being new to the forum this summer, does it slow down
over
: winter, I note a few less postings recently. I really enjoy looging
: in and coming here first to read your messges. I assume that
although
: you slow down on hennaing customers that you still do plenty
for
: yourselves and freinds?

Here in NYC things slow down a lot as the weather cools down.
i believe that has to do with how people view henna; most seem
to see it as body adornment to be shown off during the summer
when clothes are more skimpy. I still get clients calling me but
then it's mostly for indoor parties. I would say that the high
season is May - September, and the medium season is March -
May and Sept. - Nov.

i don't mind the downtime as it gives me time to work on new
designs and techniques as well as henna friends and myself.
During the high season i don't have much time for any of that
stuff.
