You really do see them don't you. And you know whatlives : behind the eyes. That is unusual. And exquisite!!! Thank you! I think the hundreds of books I've read researching the history and traditions of henna leak through .... these women did NOT have easy lives. I start foaming at the mouth when I see the Orientalist paintings of "exotic" women, with the Victorian Euromale mindset that they were as bland and sweet as Halvah. I like the way women paint women. Women know that their bodies aren't there JUST to make a soft landing for men. They're good for all sorts of things, (some of which terrify men) and their minds flit to subjects other than pleasing their husbands. So, when I can find photographs of the women, and reconstruct their costumes and all, I have many hours to think about their lives. To draw a woman well, you DO have to get inside that body for a while. Yes, the outer appearance can be submissive and docile, but you have to also get the tension behind that that shows that sweetness is a temporary survival strategy. I'll do one of these every so often ... and sometime I hope to get out my paints again. I've got 4 large color pieces done ... I need to find a printer that can handle poster size prints! Any suggestions on that? Lithographer? If I can hunt down a printer I can afford, I'd have 7 pieces ready to sell......
