freezer-lovin' mega henna?

I don't have the pics yet, as my monitor is on the fritz, so I
haven't been able to upload my digicam, but I was so excited when I
woke up this morning and saw my hand that I had to post about it
anyway. I woke up this morning with the most amazing stain- a
fabulously deep reddish-burgundy, on the palm *and* the back of my
hand. But here is where it gets weird. I used henna from Castle Arts
that I know to be at least a *year and half old*! I've had it
stashed in the freezer all that time, using it occasionally on hair,
but I was out of all my other stuff and wanted to try a block
pattern. So I mixed it up with my henna solution Saturday morn, left
it on top of the fridge for the day, added tea tree and let it sit
overnight. I applied the paste Sunday, half way into
watching "Dogma", and at the end of the movie I removed the paste,
which was mostly dry 'cause I forgot to add sugar. It was on for no
more than an hour. I was amazed to see that the color at paste
removal already rivaled that of the pumpkin on my doorstep, and
watched with fascination as it seemed darker everytime I looked down
at my hand. I kept taking digipics, hoping to catch the different
stages, and I'll post them as soon as I can.
My question, though, is has anyone else experienced terps as an old
henna booster? Or is this Castle Arts stuff some crazy kind of
freezer-lovin' mega henna?
