Henna mixed wrong

I just mixed up some henna last nite, and today its color is
orangeish brown, not dark green/black. I followed the recipe at the
tap dancing lizard but it still came out like this. It stains good
though, I applied it for about 15 minutes and got a bright orange
color, but I was hoping to get it brown. What did I do wrong because
the mix is not dark green?
