I made my own sifter with the 2 jars & the stocking (it was Hadie who originally described it under "forget the sifting..." below), but I didn't like the results as much as my very fine mesh sieve. Seems to go through the metal mesh faster, without losing the advantage of very fine holes. But I can't seal up the sieve between 2 jars of course, because it has a handle sticking out of it. What I would really like to do is find a sheet of the very fine metal mesh they make sieves out of. Then I could glue it between my 2 jar lids and be, I think, quite happy. The hardware stores I looked in only carry window screen (TOO big) and aerators for faucets (right size holes, but just a tiny circle of material). Does anyone know where I might find very fine wire mesh by the foot? I though for sure Home Depot would have it, but no go. Now that I have an entire kilo of very good, but rather stick-filled henna, I am in great need of fast, dust-free sifting. I know I could just shell out the $20 for Jed Hansen's sifter, but there is a certain satisfaction to building your own.
