henna on furniture

My friend recently came back from Morocco. She brought me back the
loveliest jewelry box. That is in moroccan design. It has the paste
still on I think it is laquered on, I can't tell. But Would it be
possible if any one has information on how to do it. Or is just like
doing henna on the body? I would like to try it and make them for
hoilday gifts. any ideas? I was really inrigued on how it was done. My
friend said they used leather and on drums etc. Any help would be much
