Is there any way to treat this?

I got a black henna tattoo on my back and initially everything was fine. After two weeks I started to get red itchy blisters over the entire inked area, which I assumed was an allergic reaction and treated with Hydrocortisone. I continued using that for over a week but the rash showed no change so I went to the doctor. He gave me the brilliant diagnosis that I "had an allergic reaction to something in the tattoo" and gave me a stronger steroid cream. It has been several days now and the cream has done nothing to reduce the redness or itching, although the swelling has gone down slightly. My first question is, Has anyone had any luck with other treatments and if so what are they? And second, Does this sound like a reaction to the PPD mentioned on the web page? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
