Applyng henna design in stages to avoid messes

Hi there,I am getting ready for summer and I wanted to apply a design (by
myself) coiling up my leg. I have had some Oops episodes
where I was trying to apply henna on one side of my foot or leg
and smudged the freshly applied other side by accident. I was
thinking of doing it in stages over a period of 2 or 3 days. Does
anyone do this and will my design eventually adrken to the same
shade or will it look blotchy? And advice and tips on doing wrap
around leg designs on oneself would be greatly appreciated.
